Today I spent the morning on the phone trying to get through to Progress Energy about disconnecting the power at the old so it can be torn down. Now keep in mind I have been trying for 2 days-I was still getting the all circuits are busy message this morning. I finally went to the website looking for any other number I could call and hopefully get transferred to where I needed to go. That worked except I was hold for 11 minutes to speak to the first person and then another 11 minutes to speak to the second person. After all of that, I called Jeff with the info that I had gotten and of course it wasn't what I needed to do. So I started all over again with the phone calls. Finally after another 1/2 hour on the phone I got to the person I needed and explained what we wanted only to be told that the person of account would have to be the one to make the request. Picture me screaming inside of my head. The one positive thing to come out of it was that I was able to get a direct number to the correct department without Jeff having to be on the phone a 1/2 hour like I was. So they will be out tomorrow to disconnect everything from the house and Jon Dowd will be out on Thursday to start demolition.
After my CSA meeting (I will do a separate blog for this), I went to the permit office about the septic tank re-certification and to schedule that inspection. Mr. Purvis has been really helpful throught out this whole process and told me that when we got demolition completed to mark off where the new market is going to go. He said we just have to make sure that the well is at least 25 ft away from the foundation of the building (new this year) and the building must be at least 10 ft away from the foundation. Neither of those will be a problem with where we will be positioning the market. So as soon as we get it demolished and marked off he said to just give him a call and could get out the same day if I called early enough. In Moore County to get an inspection the day of the call is almost unheard of. So I'm hoping he is a man of his word.
When I got home the phone rang and it was the guy Jeff had spoke to from the Fire Dept about doing a control burn on the building. He had originally told Jeff that it would be the end of February before they could do it. He had driven by the property and saw where a lot of the wood and tin had been removed from the house and inquired about that. So Jeff told him that we had decided to go with demolition because of the window of time we are working with and the end of Feb just didn't work for us. Then Jeff is told that the control burn could possibly be done quicker than that and he would call him tomorrow or Thursday to let him know for sure. It would be great if they could do it within our time frame because that would save us the expense of the demolition. So we decided if he called tomorrow that we would do the burn but if not then we were going to go as scheduled since we have already made all the arrangements.
We are exctied about all that's happening but a little overwhelmed at all we have to do in such a short amount of time. We are hoping to open Easter Weekend and as long as we can get the inspections and permits on schedule we should be ok.
