Well we have been busy on the farm and in the greenhouse. All my tables in the greenhouse are full and I have started lining the floor with flats of seeds. And tomorrow I will be back in there sowing more seeds. I have the following seeds to sow: roma tomatoes, cherry tomatoes (2 varieties), green bell peppers, chives, and another variety of parsley.
On the farm we have been even busier as the pictures will show.
This is a picture of the left side of the driveway that I cleared of small scrub oaks, tiny pine trees, and just scrappy little "weed" trees that were growing. I just now have to find a way to kill this straw grass that seems to be taking over everything along with the poison ivy. This is also the side of the driveway that we putting the mailbox on. Since our sign restrictions are as they are I am having a small sign made to hang up the mailbox with a simple picture of a small strawberry on it. The NCSA did a study and found the best advertising tool as far as signs goes was just a sign with a strawberry on it and possibly an arrow. Since we are the only thing in that spot I won't need the arrow. There's a cemetary across the street and I don't think people are going to go there to pick berries.

This is a picture of the right side of the driveway. It was a lot worse than the other side. I managed to cut the other side with some loppers but this side required the chain saw and Jeff's expertise. The side of the hill was so over grown that it was blocking the view of the traffic as we pulled out of the driveway and was really dangerous. The concrete pipes in the pic are the ones we are going to have to use when we pave the driveway entrance. On the top of the hill there is a sandy empty spot betwen the strawberry field and the tree line. This is part of the state's right of way and we can't do anything with that part. I am hoping to get out there and sprinkle out some wild flower seeds that we bought on our honeymoon just to help cut down on the washing. Maybe since it will improve the look of that section of the highway they won't make us mow it down.

This is a picture of the of the right side of the driveway again. The sign you see is one that was left by Robin and her husband from the business they had there. We have a couple of days of rain coming up and once that passes I will be painting this white and painting coming soon.... on the sign in bright red letter. Hopefully that will catch the attention of passerbys and also cause people to start talking about all that is going on.

This is another picture of the left side of the driveway that I had cleared away. This post that you see sticking up was invisible. There is poison ivy growing everywhere in the little patch and it covered everything. I am one of those fortunate few that poison ivy or oak doesn't bother. I also unearthed a couple of azalea bushes in the process. Hopefull they will grow alot better now that they are being smothered by the vine. I was thinking that some wild flowers would be nice looking on this side too. To the left of the fence in the background is a fire hydrant so I am trying to keep from planting anything in the space in front of the fence.

This is the view from the end of the driveway leading up to the farm market and inside the farm property. The 2 large posts actually hold the bright red gates that we will put in place when we get closer to finishing. Connected to the posts is the fence shown in the previous pictures. Here I am going to try to kill the straw grass and plant some white crepe myrtles alternating with either hollies or yellow bell bushes. I haven't decided yet. We were told by the county driveway guy that when we replace the gate doors we have to fix it so that the gate only opens inward toward the farm. If it opens outward toward the highway we would have to move it back to accomodate the footage the gates would take up so as not to encroach on the state's right of way. I personally find that silly but we are going to follow all the rules so there will be no issues on opening day. We also have to pave the driveway from the highway to the these gate posts which is about 80 feet I think.
